Community Assisted and Supported Living, Inc. (CASL) was founded in 1998 by Scott and Heather Eller. Originally, CASL consisted of only Renaissance Manor, a unique assisted living facility in Sarasota with a Limited Mental Health License. Through their hard work and dedication, the Ellers created a special place for adults with mental illness to receive the care and support needed to gain control of their health and mental well-being.
As advocates for) individuals with behavioral and co-occurring disorders, often considered SPMI (severe & persistently mentally ill) CASL recognized the need for different levels of residential options for those who would not have it available otherwise. Through the years, CASL acquired single-family and multi-family units throughout southwest Florida to expand housing options that met the diverse needs of its clients.
In 1997, CASL merged with Community Affordable and Supported Living, a nonprofit founded by Charley Richards that aimed to provide affordable housing for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This merger enabled both organizations to increase impact through unified operations.
With more than 25 years of experience, CASL has grown from a small ALF to include more than 100 single and multi-family units throughout 8 counties in Florida. Most recently, through its strategic partnership with affordable housing developer Blue Sky Communities, CASL has been able to add hundreds of units throughout Southwest Florida for low-income adults with disabilities that helps to reduce homelessness.
It is CASL's mission to provide safe, affordable, and supportive housing
for adults with disabilities.
